21st Banco Sabadell Foundation Award for Economic Research

The Jury selected Prof Elena Manresa Quirante, holder of a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona and lecturer at the economics department of the New York University (NYU), as the winner of this year’s edition for her research work in the econometrics field, focusing on panel data and the inclusion of machine learning and artificial intelligence, which allow the treatment of heterogeneity in empirical work in economics.

  • Some examples include the study of the origins of the gender pay gap using Swedish administrative data, the quantification of the indirect effects of R&D among companies in the US, or the rationalisation of savings patterns in the US using the AHEAD survey.
