Madrid becomes the capital of contemporary art this weekend

For three days, 43 galleries of Arte_Madrid open their doors to give you free access to the work of emerging young artists and of renowned artists in the world of national and international art.

Today marks the beginning of one of the most highly anticipated cultural events. Until Saturday 17 September, Madrid will become, for the seventh consecutive year, a capital of contemporary art with the Opening Madrid Gallery Weekend, where you will be able to see works from both renowned artists and artists of the new generation through painting, photography, sculptures…

Over 60 artists will show their best work for free in the 43 galleries that form part of Arte_Madrid (Art Galleries Association). It is a highly anticipated event which year after year further establishes itself as one of the most important Gallery Weekends in the world. Last year it had over 24,000 visitors.

The aim of Opening Madrid Gallery Weekend is to bring the general public closer to contemporary art. For this purpose, various activities will be held in parallel such as the ARCO Gallery Walk, an initiative carried out by the ARCO Foundation and which offers free guided tours by experts around participating galleries.
