Schedule for the weekend of 21st September: art, exhibitions, photography, literature… cultural recommendations for you this weekend

-‘Abrir la mente para imaginar’ (‘Open the mind to imagine’) is the theme of this year’s thirteenth edition of the Hay Festival Segovia, which will take place until Sunday 23rd, and which will address cultural themes such as literature, art, cinema and architecture, and which will also host debates about Europe, peaceful coexistence and understanding in matters relating to gender and health, amongst other topics. You can see the full programme by clicking here here.

-You can visit the Art<35 exhibition at the Sala Parés in Barcelona until October 2nd. The exhibition displays works by 10 young artists who are the finalists of a competition, supported by us here at the Banco Sabadell Foundation, to promote and recognise the talent of young artists under the age of 35 and to display their work.

-The Valencia Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) will be holding two new and highly recommendable exhibitions, including ‘Annette Messager. Púdico – Público’, where a sample of the artist’s works will be displayed. This artist is known for using every-day objects traditionally seen as having very little value, and putting them to different uses to change the feelings that they evoke. Until November 4th.

-The Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias (Asturias Fine Arts museum) is holding the exhibition ‘Trazos de la palabra: viñetas de Revista de Occidente’, which displays original drawings and works by renowned artists that were used to illustrate some of the covers of the Revista de Occidente magazine.

-The Foto Colectania Foundation brings you its new exhibition ‘Saul Leiter: In search of Beauty’, with 130 colour and black and white photographs showing all of Leiter’s facets and including his most iconic images. Leiter took photographs of the streets of New York during six decades from an intimist perspective. The exhibition will be open to the public until 21st October.

-’La luz negra’ (Black light), an exhibition that shows how a number of secret traditions have influenced contemporary art from the fifties up until the present day. The exhibition will be open until October 21st at the Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB).

-The tenth edition of the Bienal de Fotografía Xavier Miserachs will take place until October 14th in Palafrugell, Girona. You will have the chance to visit 11 exhibitions in different locations throughout the city and take part in a number of activities that will be taking place in parallel.
