Contemporary art conquers Barcelona with Swab and Gallery Weekend

For a few days, from 29 September to 2 October, Barcelona will become the capital of emerging contemporary art with the IX edition of Swab, the International Contemporary Art Fair in Barcelona, in which a total of 75 art galleries from 25 countries will take part with new curator programmes such as Focus Magreb, Cross-Bounders and Inside Out, in which the Banco Sabadell Foundation is also collaborating. Also, you can visit already consolidated programmes such as Swab Solo, Swab Seed, Drawing applications and MYFAF.

This is not the only event of contemporary art taking place over these days, as the second edition of Barcelona Gallery Weekend is also taking place, in which 23 galleries are taking part, and up to 5 artistic events will take place in unique spaces of the city, and up to 24 exhibitions will be prepared. This is a cultural event that gather art lovers, collectors, professionals and artists. It is a unique weekend in which you can discover the wide range of programmes offered by the most renowned art galleries of Barcelona, speeches, guided tours, project spaces and exhibitions.

New IN/OUT programme, in Swab Barcelona

The Foundation collaborates with this independent programme by Frederic Montornés and Imma Prieto, in which a series of young artists are introduced through one central question: what does it mean to be in or out? Based on this question, this programme invites you to reflect on this through creations proposed by emerging talents in contemporary art.

Banco Sabadell Foundation Award to the Best Art Gallery

This award seeks to acknowledge the best Swab Gallery in Barcelona, an award that consists in the acquisition for the Banco Sabadell Foundation of a work of art from the awarded gallery. A jury of collectors, directors of art centres and chaired by Miquel Molins, Chairman of the Foundation.

23 galleries and 24 exhibitions with Barcelona Gallery Weekend

During thes four days Barcelona will play host, for the second consecutive year, to this artistic event that transforms the city into the centre of contemporary art with a wide range of exhibitions ranging from painting, sculpture and installations by renowned contemporary national and international artists.

In this edition, five works of arts produced exclusively for this occasion will be located in unique locations such as: the Arús Public Library will have work by Lola Lasurt, the Unidad Muntada de la Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona will have work by Wilfredo Prieto, the Barcelona Billiards Club will have works by Lúa Coderch; the old textile factory, Can Trinxet, in L’Hospitalet will have work by Regina Giménez, and the performance of Robert Llimós will bring together all the participating locations.
