The professional training course offers students their first experience of the stage, the orchestra, set design and costumes, in front of a live audience, as a first step towards a professional career in music. With the 29th course, dedicated to the staging of the opera Le nozze di Figaro, young opera talents are thoroughly trained in all aspects required for a successful operatic performance: stage and musical performance techniques, physical expression, style, diction, etc., all with the aim of staging the opera in front of a live audience. Following full orchestra rehearsals, students selected in the Competition perform at the Teatro Farándula in Sabadell, in the same production of Le nozze di Figaro that takes place concurrently as part of the Opera in Catalonia circuit, with the participation of professional artists.
“It is proving to be a truly enriching experience in every way because we have Italian lessons, singing lessons, music rehearsals and stage rehearsals. It is a full-on schedule where we are working in the opera house all day. Looking back at where we were at the start and comparing with where we are now, there is a world of difference. We have really done so much work. It is very important to be able to access this type of project in order to truly understand what opera is and work in this world. This project gives you the toolkit and the hands-on experience you need to be part of a production.” Carlos Varela, participant in the Escola d’Òpera de Sabadell, Les Noces de Figaro
