Cordoba takes inspiration from young artists at the Antonio Gala foundation

In the heart Cordoba, a city with history and culture around every corner, lies a place where young people from across the world come together to share their artistic passion: the Antonio Gala foundation.

Since it was first created, this space has been a refuge for young artists from all walks of life, offering them an opportunity to explore, grow and share their talent. Located in the old Carmelite convent, every corner tells a story.

Over the years, the Foundation has hosted untold numbers of talented young people, offering them not only a physical space in which to work, but also an emotional and professional environment that allows them to flourish, through its artist residencies and projects. Under the leadership of an enthusiastic team, the Foundation has broadened its horizons, taking its mission to support young talent beyond Cordoba.

A few days ago, the Foundation bid farewell to its 23rd group of art residents. While saying goodbye to the latest group, who arrived in October, comprising fifteen national and international artists, the president of the Foundation, Francisco Moreno, acknowledged that they are already “receiving new applications for the next residency, which will be the twenty-fourth”.

The members of this 23rd group of artists in residence were plastic and visual artists Arturo Garrido Velilla (Madrid), Rosa María Medina Morillas (Jaén), María Eugenia Ortiz Mérida (Priego de Córdoba, Córdoba), Manuela Rodríguez Tovar (Cádiz), Laura Sánchez Avilés (Córdoba) and María Susinos Sancho (Liendo, Cantabria); writers Érika Ambrosio Muñoz (Madrid), Yordan Arroyo Carvajal (Alajuela, Costa Rica), Nicolás Carreira Pena (Lugo), Francisco Jácome García (Xalapa, Veracruz, México), Diego Javier Martín Ramos (La Habana, Cuba), Pedro Muñoz-Calero Franco (Madrid), Pedro Ramos Romero (Cortegana, Huelva) and Isabel Riquelme Llompart (Huelva); and musician Gil Miguel Monteagudo Ruiz (Cenizate, Albacete).

During the ceremony, the president of the Antonio Gala Foundation, Francisco Moreno, praised the quality of work and the devotion of all fifteen national and international artists who were part of this residency group: “They have been a very active group that have supported each other tremendously”. So as we bid farewell to our 23rd group of artists in residence, we celebrate not only their talent, but also the indomitable spirit of the Antonio Gala foundation, which continues to inspire and support the young creators of today and tomorrow.

The residency has allowed me to engage in dialogue, to change, and above all to listen both to myself and to others” said Érika Ambrosio, one of the 23rd group of artists in residence.

For the Banco Sabadell Foundation, collaborating with institutions such as Antonio Gala helps us to keep on promoting cultural and artistic development, as a key pillar of our support for talented young artists.
