Recognising young pianists

The 65th edition of the Maria Canals International Piano Competition

  • 88 pianists of 33 different nationalities took part in this edition of the competition.
  • The competition consists of two elimination rounds, one semi-final and a grand final with orchestra accompaniment, which take place at the Palau de la Música Catalana.
  • During the week-long Competition Barcelona becomes the capital city of the piano, with different activities organised for a variety of audiences, including the distribution of more than 100 grand pianos at various locations throughout the city so that anyone who knows how to play may have the opportunity to do so.

“It is very important that institutions provide young musicians with opportunities such as this one, particularly in a concert venue as iconic as the Palau de la Música. It is clear that there is real passion for music here”
