The panel of the third edition of the DOCfield Dummy Award Banco Sabadell Foundation has chosen the ZONE project, by Portuguese photographer Fábio Cunha, which conceptually and formally seeks to resolve the consequences of the real estate bubble through research and visual reporting of the urban post-conflict.

This award forms part of the DOCfield Documentary Photography festival, which has attracted over 50 photographers and some 30 exhibitions, transforming Barcelona into the heart of documentary photography and photojournalism for a two-month period. With this initiative, the Festival seeks to promote the consolidation of the photobook as a support tool for the dissemination of stories worth telling.

ZONE, the winning project

ZONE is a doc-fiction that explores the consequences of a crisis in which a researcher creates a report that acts as a basis for the construction of this analysis. The purpose of ZONE is to show the mutations, trauma and divisions that are common in a post-conflict environment. The book personifies the work method of the researcher, who obsessively compares and contrasts situations, details, objects, sizes, etc. The challenge: to find a way of explaining the new reality that exists.
