The Teatro Principal in Alicante, together with the Banco Sabadell Foundation, is launching its new season with a varied programme which will celebrate its 170th anniversary in 2017. Some of the most notable theatrical events include ‘Invincible’, a comedy starring Maribel Verdú and Natalia Verbeke, ‘Porcelain Doll’, directed by David Mamet, with José Sacristán and Javier Godino, ‘The upstairs neighbours’, by Gesc Gay, and ‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’ by William Shakespeare.

One of the most celebrated moments of the season will be the presentation of light operas, ‘Soul of God’ and ‘The Gorritz Method’, in homage to the playwright from Alicante, Carlos Arniches, 150 years after his death. The famous light opera ‘La Revoltosa’ will also be performed, as well as the operas ‘Turandot’ and ‘Tosca’ and the flamenco show ‘Libertino’.

In terms of music, you will have the chance to go to concerts by artists such as Los Sabandeños, Raimon, Ariel Rot and Coque Malla. There will also be various musicals, including the hit ‘Mamma Mia’, with music by ABBA. There will also be time for classic ballet, with ‘The Nutcracker’ performed by the Imperial Russian Ballet. See modern dance in ‘Pinoxxio’ and ‘De Vuelta’, in homage to the popular dancer from Alicante, José Espadero. Humour will be provided by comedian Álex O’Dogherty. Also, on 17 October, the first edition of the José Estruch Awards will take place, to commemorate the celebrated theatre director from Alicante during the mid-twentieth century.
